My relationship to Japan
With the enormous phenomenon of Anime culture all over the world, I, as well as a lot of kids around my age at the time, was greatly influenced by it since we were in elementary school. We were appealed by the colorfulness, of a somewhat familiar culture to our, but still, there was a greater appeal from the unique rituals and norms, that caught out attention and interests as to how they were established and preserved. Back in the days when I was still in Vietnam, I don’t remember Japan being brought up much in my History classes. Therefore, the majority of my knowledge about Japan comes from the glory and romance that Anime brings. When I got to take HILD 12, it really widened my eyes, knowing that Japan had been through much more, and the whole “kawaii” culture is just a small part of its culture, as well as history.
